Abstract
Handloom industry in India is the most ancient cottage industry. The handloom industry is a rural based cottage industry, and plays a important role in improving economic conditions of rural weavers. Tamilnadu occupies maximum number of handlooms in the country. In Kanyakumari District handloom industry is a traditional industry which is the largest in the unorganized sector. In kanyakumari District, handloom industry came into being more than 2000 years ago. In this district the industry is concentrated in places such as Kottar, Vadaseri,Eraniel, Palliyadi, Vazhathottam and Amsi. In kanyakumari district Kannanvilai handloom weavers co-operative production and sales society ltd is a 64 years of experience in handloom sector. The data required for the present study has been collected from primary sources. A sample of hundred weavers has been selected by using convenient sampling from Kannanvilai handloom weavers co-operative society of Kanyakumari district.
