Abstract
One of the major reasons for the increasing incidents of rape is that the judicial system takes extremely long time in punishing the perpetrator and rather lethargic judicial process has become a routine in all cases of rape including even those cases which have been reported widely generated huge public uproar, been debated for days together. Rape is the most heinous crime, not only against the victim but also the society at large. It causes psychological and physical harm to the victim leaving upon her indelible marks.[1] It is unfortunate that the society is witnessing the incidents of rape, gang rape and rape followed by murder crossing all bounds of brutality, so much so that the frequency of occurrence of such incidents does not permit as the society to get over the shock of one incident over the other. The rise of crime against women and rape cases in India is alarming.
