Abstract

Voices of women have been suppressed, ignored and side lined for centuries under the influence of patriarchy. With an advent of feminism and education, women have become aware about their secondary status in society. They have challenged the notions of patriarchy and raised their voice against the forces which propagate gender discrimination. Literature is considered as a finest weapon to resist any kind of injustice and discrimination. Therefore, women writers have selected the genre of drama to resist the marginalization of women. Many contemporary playwrights like Poile Sengupta, Manjula Padmanabhan, Uma Parmeshwaram, Dina Mehta, Tripurari Sharma and others came forward with their unconventional plays which shook the pillars of male-dominated society.
