Abstract

Health Information Systems provide organized access to health related information resources including health databases, repositories, Electronic Health records, patient care statistical reports etc. Over the past two decades a lot of literature has been generated on the origin, adoption and use of health information systems (HIS) all across the globe. The paper highlights the research contributions by both developed and developing nations in the adoption and development of health information systems (HIS). The present work is thus making an attempt towards analyzing the research contributions pertaining to Health Information Systems harvestable through Web of Science. A topical search was conducted with “Health Information System” as the main theme for a time span of 6 years (2012-2017). A total of 7881 results were retrieved from the database and in the year 2016 most research publication were produced amounting to the total of 36%.the majority of the contributions were found in the form of research articles 6732 i.e. 85% with USA contributing 4255 (59%) and England 2020 (28%). Under the subject category 1378 articles were produced under “Health Care Sciences & Services” and 1019 under “Public, Environmental & Occupational Health”. On the publishing front ELSEVIER topped the list with 925 publications and Wiley publishing 679 of total articles.
