Abstract

A task-based approach to language teaching has become a universal mantra in the field of ESL and FSL learning and teaching. Its advantages are acknowledged in all education contexts of all levels. The researcher much convinced with the advantages of the approach designed a task following the standard procedure of task-designs incorporating all key characteristics of a task in order to teach English poetry to learners at the tertiary level. The task designed helps learners understand a poem and appreciate it comprehensively touching upon all key aspects of a poem, and practise all four language skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing, contextually and meaningfully.
