Abstract

Coal mining contributes economic growth, provide employment opportunities and many benefits to local people like schools, colleges, hospitals, better roads etc. But there are many challenges due to coal mining activities like it degrade air, water, soil, agricultural land and it also impact on health of the people. Therefore to achieve sustainable development of coal mining is difficult. In the coal mining sector, sustainable development means economic, social and environmental sustainability. The increasing need of sustainable mining has been realised especially in the light of environmental externalities and global warming.  The paper analysed the status of CO2 emissions from coal production and use. The study is based on secondary data collected from BP statistics and World Bank.
