Abstract

The study was carried out to identify the effect of yogic practice on selected physiological and psychological variables among physically challenged male children’s.  To achieve the purpose of the study, thirty students were selected from residential handicapped school, kelampakkam, Kanchipuram district, Tamilnadu.  The age ranged between 10 to 15 years.  The subjects were randomly selected and divided into two groups.  The experimental group underwent yogic practice during morning and evening hours over the period of six weeks.  The control group left out from the yogic practices.  The criterion variables selected for this study were resting rate, breath holding time, stress and anxiety.  The following standardized test items were used to assess the dependent variables such as resting pulse rate was estimated by radial pulse method, breath-holding time was measured with stopwatch, stress was assessed with stress questionnaire constructed by Dr.Laitha Satich and anxiety was assessed with taylor’s manifest anxiety scale.  The data were collelcted before and the after experimental period.  The data pertaining to the variables in this study were examined by using analysis of covariance [ANCOVA].
