Abstract
On 5 August 2019, Modi Government repealed Article 370 and 35 A and ended decades old special status given to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Article 370 was basically responsible for developing separatism, terrorism and an atmosphere of awe and fear among the residents of Valley. Pakistan sponsored terrorism turned the Valley from heaven into a hell. By scrapping Article 370 Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, indubitably, have presented an example of substantial political leadership. The present paper is an attempt to analyse how the implementation of Article 370 proved to be disastrous for the overall development of the Valley. How it paved way for external powers to interfere in the internal matters of India. It also highlights how it has been used as a tool of political opportunism. The paper also focuses on the reach of education and employment as a means by Indian Government to evolve harmonious relations with the people of J & K, so they can realize what they have lost since years and what they can regain by its repudiation.
