Abstract

August 1947, a year that had changed the fate of millions in just one mid-night. It is a compromise for getting freedom for the country. The division of united India became the doom for millions who were forcibly displaced from their homeland, the women who were physically and mentally tortured by the men of their community and sometimes of their own. The purpose of the article is to discuss the role of literature in portraying the horrific side of Partition through the critical study of Yashpal’s Jootha Sach, one of the celebrated novels of Partition.
