Abstract
Web has become an integral part of our life and Search Engines are keys to immense
treasure of information. For personal and professional use dependency on search engines is drastically
increased. To attain higher satisfaction it is necessary for users to understand difference between various
search engines. There is assortment of search engines which presents various alternatives to the users. So
it is imperative to compare and weigh up search engines to recognize best search engine.In this study we
have used various methods to compare and evaluate different search engines. Because of different
techniques used for indexing, ranking and crawling by various search engines, there is less overlapping
in search results. The response time and precision of various search engines also vary. This study helps
the users to select suitable search engine for their information retrieval. It also helps to identify and
overcome the loop holes identified in various search engines.
