Family and marriage are considered as important institutions across all societies. Understanding marriage and influential factors assist, in delineating their impact on human, biological and cultural evolution. Decoding the marriage institution in the Indian scenario needs an analysis of various factors such as education, age, residence type (rural/ urban) and income levels of eligible women. In the backdrop of available information in this regard, especially in the Indian scenario, the present study is designed to understand the influence of certain factors such as education, age, residence type (rural/ urban) and income levels of the eligible women on inter-caste marriage. In order to understand the association among the factors, IHDS-II survey which includes ever married woman in the age group of 15-49 years in each household called the ‘eligible woman’ was examined.  A logistic regression analysis for a dependent variable indicating inter-caste marriage and other factors such as education, residence type (urban), and income per capita was carried out. It was found that Residence type and Education level of the wife showed a positive association with inter-caste marriage whereas spouse education and income resulted in negative association.
