Abstract

Bihar is a state in East India .It is the 13th largest sate in India. The third largest state of India by population. It is also contiguous with Uttar Pradesh to its west, Nepal to the north,the northern part of west Bengal to the east, with Jharkhand to the south to the south. The name Bihar is derived from the Sanskrit and Pali word, Vihara,which means” abode”. TheBihar plain is split by the river Ganges which flows from west to east. In ancient and classical India, Bihar was considered a centre of power, learning, and culture. There is only one world Heritage site in Bihar. Bihar is divided into 38 districts and 9 Division.katihar is one of the 38 districts in Bihar. The head quarter of the district is katihar.The district katihar is situated in the plains of north, Bhagalpur district in the West, sahebganj district in the south and West Bengal in the East. Paddy is the main agricultural crops. Jute and paper mills are the main Industry. As such there is no mineral availability is there in the district under report. The district has no deposits of any specific minerals. There is a nodular limestone belt at a detached hill near Manihari called Chotapahar .katihar has a very small forest area.
