Abstract

Greater transparency and accountability of higher education institutions,qualify faculties, impartingvalued education, output base scientific researches, good citations, international recognitions etc are the indicators ofexcellence of education. In present article, an effort has been made to address some of these indicators in context of Indian higher education system. The emphasis has been given on attributes likeLR, GER, status of faculties, category, gender and discipline wise enrolment status in higher education institutions. The study also includes thepotential issues that needs to pay attention and some important initiatives taken by the government to meet those challenges as well.
