Abstract

The goal of the current study was toexplore the relationship between Body image satisfaction, Resilience, Optimism and subjective well-being among late adolescents. It also aimed to examine gender differences among the same. The sample comprised of 327 first year undergraduate students from two Arts and Science colleges in Idukki district of Kerala. The tools used were Multidimensional Body self-relations questionnaire; Life orientation test – Revised; Resilience Scale and Satisfaction with life scale. An ex-post facto research design was used to establish the relationship between the variables. Pearson product moment correlationand Independent sample t-test were used to statically analyse the data.  The results revealed a significant positive relationship between Body image satisfaction and the following variables: Optimism (r = .43, p<.01); Resilience (r = .38, p<.01); and subjective wellbeing (r = .53, p<.01); Independent sample t-tests revealed significant gender differences only with respect to optimism (t (325) = -6.53, p< .05, two-tailed) and subjective well-being (t (325) = -2.38, p< .05, two-tailed).
