Abstract

Exercises generally follow reading materials in Indian text books.  This approach to reading a text presupposes that the students are aware of the topic that is in discussion and the content and he is expected to go straight into the text and start reading.  However, this paper is of the view that some exercises need to be brought before the actual text to force the reader to skim and scan the text before actually reading it.  The second set of exercises appearing after the text need to be crafted focused on critical reading and for complete understanding of the text.
