Abstract

Community learning is an innovative instructional method that employs a lot of motivational techniques to make instruction relevant and students more responsible and active. Some traditional, classrooms are normally chaotic, most so where the class size is large. Instruction is also mostly teacher-centred where learners are mere recipients of information. Managing learners’ classroom behaviour in such classrooms has become an issue for teachers. Many teachers find it difficult to manage their classrooms for an effective teaching and learning to take place. The present demographic explosion, generational shift in learning styles and global finest practices, requires an immediate need for teachers to change the way they pass on instruction to the students. This paper seeks to examine the meaning of community learning strategy, the concept of classroom management, the significance of community learning, and community learning as a tool for classroom management.
