Abstract

Teaching literature of a foreign country like that of British and America has many hindrances in Indian classrooms. The main hindrance that the teachers of those literatures face is that the students are not aware of social set up of those country or they don’t understand the culture of that place. Unless the students get to understand the culture and social set up of those countries, they find difficulty in understanding and connecting with that literature. This paper is to analyse the aspect of introducing film adaptation of the novels to help the students understand the settings and background of the novel in the aspect of understanding the cultural and social set up of the countries those novel are set in. The researcher uses the novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and the film adaptation of the novel by Joe Wright to illustrate this technique. This paper focuses on the idea of introducing a film adaptation of a novel in the classroom to help students learn the novel in a more effective way.
