Abstract
In this era of Categorizing Literature into genres and sub genres, it is difficult to deal with all forms of literature in the English class. Still the predominant forms of literature in English. This study evaluates the effect of poetry in English classes. Poetry is opted to teach English since it is considered as a valuable authentic material for cultural enrichment, language enrichment, literary enjoyment and personal involvement. The phrase’ teaching poetry’ leads us into a world of conflicts. The words ‘teaching’ and ‘poetry’ appear antithetical, as there is a view that poetry figures in our curriculum and has invited the language- literature dichotomy.
