Abstract

Jewish women have lived in patriarchal situations. They have contributed to the culture of the world and historic proportions. They were at all times inferior and subservient to men. Jewish family life was dictated by the law which dealt with women entirely from the point of view of a patriarchal society. Women’s role in life consisted of caring her husband, children and home. All her needs were to be met by her father, husband and her son. Jewish women writers emancipated for the rights of Jewish women through their works.  The Red Tent, a popular novel by Anita Diamant is an emotionally rich saga based on characters in the bible. The novel retells the biblical events from a female perspective and emphasizes women’s experiences.
