Abstract

Some First transition series metal complexes containing bidentate organic ligand,  3-[3-(3-ethoxy-4-hydroxyphenyl)acryloyl]-4-hydroxy-6-methyl-2H-pyran-2-one derived from 3-acetyl-6-methyl-pyran-2,4(3H)-dione (dehydroacetic acid) and 3-ethoxy-4-hydroxy benzaldehyde, have been prepared and characterized by new modern spectroscopic techniques as well as antimicrobial activity using standard reference drugs. Analytical & Spectral data, the complexes was found to be 1:2 (metal: ligand). The synthesized ligand and its metal complexes were screened for their in vitro antibacterial and antifungal activity against several human pathogenic bacteria and fungi. It has been found that some of the complexes were active & show higher activity than the free ligand. Metal chelation affects significantly bioactive behaviour of the organic ligands.
