Abstract

Values of dielectric constant (ε′) and dielectric loss (ε″) have been measured for binary liquid mixtures of acetonitrile with ethanol at 10.75 GHz microwave frequencies at 300C and over the complete mole fraction range using surber’s technique, which is based on the principle of frequency domain reflectometry (FDR) technique. These values have been used to evaluate the loss tangent ( ), molar polarization (P12) and a.c. conductivity (σp).The results are discussed in terms of intermolecular interactions. It has been shown that the results are positive over the complete range of composition.

The experimental values of viscosity, density and refractive index for pure liquid and binary liquid mixtures of acetonitrile with ethanol were measured at 300C.The values of viscosity have been used to evaluate the activation energy (Ea).These parameters have been used to explain the formation of hydrogen bonding and formation of complex in the binary liquid mixtures.
