Abstract
According to the Scheduled Tribe population, Odisha ranks the third position in India. As per the census of 2011, the literacy rate of the scheduled tribe in Odisha 52.24 percent. Education imparts knowledge, skills, and character. It helps people to know the world beyond their surroundings and transforms them to become rationalists and humanists in outlook and worldviews. It is not only meant for earning a better livelihood rather it has a greater perspective towards upliftment in the status of the society opening avenues for optimum utilization of resources. Education thus becomes essential to every individual to maximize their potential towards a harmonious life. Tribal in this regard lag behind other communities for various reasons. The poor economic condition is one of the great hindrances to the successful education of the tribal people.
