Abstract
Environment protection is one of the most important concerns of the 21st century concerning the humans. Environment protection is not the only duty of government or NGOs but every human being has a responsibility towards the environment to protect it for their own survival. Environmental protection does not only require protection of environment but also calls for sustainable development and conservation of ecology. The rapid industrial development has also cause serious degradation of environment. Research suggests that lack of effective enforcement of laws related to environment protection is the main cause of degradation of environment. Various NGOs have been working towards the environment protection in Ladakh. This research investigates the role of NGOs in protection and promotion of environment in Ladakh region in the state of Jammu & Kashmir, India. It also investigates into the challenges faced by the NGOs in the protection of environment in Ladakh.
