Abstract

Situated at the southernmost tip of India, Kanyakumari District is fascinating even for a casual visitor. With a chain of forest covered mountains sustaining a grand wild life and vegetation on the north, Kerala the land of exquisitic natural beauty on its west, the never ending gentle waves of the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea lasting on all its other sides, draping itself with the splendour of green vegetations and lotus filed tanks and abounding in perfectly carved valleys   to match the majestic background of mountains, the pride of Kanyakumari District, the land of paddy, coconut, rubber, pepper, cardamom and cloves knows no bounds. Before independence, Kanyakumari was part of the ancient kingdom of Travancore.
