Abstract

The term “Identity crisis” was coined by German psychologist Erik Erikson.  Identity crisis refers to a situation where a person experiences uncertainty about their real self.  An  unresolved crisis makes an individual to struggle in order to find themselves.  It is very pathetic that they don’t know who they are and what they want to do. When a person experiences the sense of insecurity, he faces identity crisis.  Mulk Raj Anand’s character Munoo is one of such persons who experiences identity crisis throughout his life.  Mulk Raj Anand is one of the famous writers in Indian writing in English.  His works always focus on the oppressed people especially in India.  And also he talks about the poor coolies and caste system in Indian society.
