Abstract
Erode District is located in Kongu uplands region of Western Tamil Nadu. Kaveri and its tributaries, Bhavani river, Mayar river runs through the Erode District. Erode District leading producer of turmeric, plantain (Banana), coconuts and white silk in Tamil Nadu. A tribe are defined as “A race of people, now applied especially to primary aggregate of people in a primitive or barbarous condition, under a headman or a chief” Oxford dictionary. Tamil Nadu State have 36 listed tribes. Among the tribes Malayali, Kurumba’s, Kanikaran, kammara, kota, Sholagas and Todas are some of the tribes in Tamil Nadu. Sholaga and Kannada speaking tribes mainly found in the Chamarajanagar District of Karnataka and Erode District of Tamil Nadu. The present study was investigated at Bargur Hills, Anthiyur Taluk of Erode District, Tamil Nadu.
