Abstract
Atherosclerotic heart disease is considered as a gift of modern civilization because of its increasing prevalence on account of changes in life style. Dyslipidemia remains a strong risk factor for the development of atherosclerosis.Lipid lowering drugs have reduced the risk and controlled lipid level effectively.Records of early civilizationinall parts of the world have revealed that large number of drugs used in present day medicines were in use even during past . Recent era has witnessed a great awareness in mass regarding use of herbs to prevent,cure diseasesand thus minimize the various side effects of commercial medicines.
