Abstract

Domestic violence on women is an incurable disease of Indian society. Modern  culture and  civilization has unable to eradicate the root causes of this disease. Even through  some social, economic and political  reasons can be  blamed for  increasing rate of domestic violence, but  the main reason for this evil is patriarchal thinking. Patriarchal thinking has been  growing day by day. A lot of people still  consider  feminism as a subject of bossy  women. The reason for such thinking is ‘politics of  culture’. This kind of cultural  politics exist in every society  under which violence on women has been justifying till now. Sometimes culture play a role of manipulating  tool to internalize  violence. In  this  article, an attempt would be made to analyse the  politics behind Assamese folk lore as a reason  for increasing patriarchal  thinking which leads to domestic  violence
