Abstract

Apocalypse has been a nightmare for human from the time known. Etymologically the term apocalypse supposed to havecame from an ancient Greekterm‘apocálypsis’which means uncovering an act, lifting of the veil or revelation. And apocalyptic literature reflects man’s basic fear about his tomorrow. It is in this context the discourse of Post Apocalyptic literature exhibits its relevance. The query about what after apocalypse paved a way for the creation of a category of writing called as Post Apocalyptic literature. Post Apocalyptic literature is all about man’s survival and his further sufferings from apocalypse.In the Post Apocalyptic world, ‘hope’ is the only driving force and the sole weapon against the inevitable encounters. This article focuses the presence of the very idea of hope in disguise of symbols in Cormac McCarthy’s novel The Road. Through this novel, the author reinforces the necessity in adhering to the value of hope in a chaotic world where relations and technologies turns irrelevant.
