Abstract

Parental encouragement, teaching effectiveness and self - efficacy plays a vital role in the development of educational aspirations of adolescents. By these, adolescents make their aims and they try their best to achieve their goals and get success in their plan. In the present study, the researcher has tried (i) to study the effect of parental encouragement, teaching effectiveness and self - efficacy on the educational aspirations of adolescents (ii) to study the educational aspirations of Government and private schools' adolescents with reference to parental encouragement. (iii) to study the educational aspirations of Government and private schools' adolescents with reference to teaching effectiveness and (iv) to study the educational aspirations of Government and private schools' adolescents with reference to self - efficacy. It is Ex - post facto research. A sample of 800 adolescent students from 12 Government and private higher secondary schools in Muzaffarnagar City were selected through random sampling technique. Data was analyzed by ANOVA three way (3×3×3 ANOVA) and two way (2×3 ANOVA). It was found that parental encouragement, teaching effectiveness and self - efficacy had a significant effect, independently on the educational aspirations of adolescents and did not have significant effect in an interactive manner, on the educational aspirations of adolescents. No significant difference was found in the educational aspirations of adolescents studying in Government and private schools with reference to parental encouragement. No significant difference was found in the educational aspirations of adolescents studying in Government and private schools with reference to teaching effectiveness. No significant difference was found in the educational aspirations of adolescents studying in Government and private schools with reference to self - efficacy. Finding revealed that interaction effect between school and parental encouragement had no effect on the educational aspirations of adolescents. Interaction effect between school and teaching effectiveness had no effect on the educational aspirations of adolescents and interaction effect between school and self - efficacy had no effect on the educational aspirations of adolescents. Thus, parental encouragement, teaching effectiveness and self - efficacy has a vital role in the life of adolescents and the development of educational aspirations of adolescents.
