Abstract

E-commerce, which means buying and selling products and services electronically, is gaining a lot of importance with advancement in ICT (Information, communication and technology). Indian E-commerce market has been growing rapidly since the past few years, and is expected to continue this phase as per forecasts by various reputed institutions. Ecommerce can bring various benefits on social and economic front, and can serve as a catalyst to fuel the next wave of growth in the country. Ecommerce can help companies to target markets, in spite of not having presence in those geographical markets. In this paper an attempt is made to study the need of Ecommerce, trend in ecommerce and predictions for Indian ecommerce market, facilitators for Ecommerce and challenges for Ecommerce industry. The paper concludes that India should leverage this ecommerce opportunity to the fullest, to ride on a high economic growth trajectory.
