Abstract

The scope and dimension for pilgrim tourism is very vast and varied. Some destinations prioritize the basic needs for tourists while the other may directly promote mass tourism. Though small, Sikkim has a wider scope for developing both Buddhist and Hindu pilgrimages. Recently, Char Dham in Namchi including Buddhist culture and monastery lives is now gaining attention. The present article is an attempt to assess the conditions of services and facilities in accommodation sector and destinations ranging from basics to ultra-modernity.  The method used here is an opinion survey of tourists through a stratified random sampling with the help of a structured questionnaire and responses are assessed with Kendall’s coefficient of concordance. Among important results it is found that tourists want and expect basic facilities more than ulterior facilities and, also, adoption of sustainable principles.
