Abstract
As per the statistics published by Bureau of Police Research and Development, the actual police personnel to population ratio in 2015 was 1: 712 as against the sanctioned strength of 1 police officer for 547 people. The number of policemen per 100,000 is 137 in India against the standard of 222 prescribed by the United Nations. This envisages the relevance and need of Private security for allied police services by which the private security can play a vital role in providing allied police services and working in alliance with the police force. However, this needs the backing of robust policy reforms and improved enforcement.
