Abstract

Socialisation is an important process in the life of an individual through which an individual internalises the norms and values of the society. Family is one of the most important agencies of socialisation among others. In a patriarchal society like India, generally there is ‘gender socialisation’, that is, differential socialisation for boys and girls. Sons are taught to develop masculine characteristics and behaviour patterns, whereas daughters are trained to be feminine.
