Abstract
Since ages women have been denied their freedom and individual identity. They live their lives under the shadow of the patriarchal system whereby their identity is mostly related to the men folk in the family / society. Arrange marriage as an institution plays significant role in the subjugation of women. This 'other' to 'man' has been taught since her birth to 'internalise' her own 'subordination' under the pretext of being 'civilized'. She rarely thinks of breaking such exploitative patriarchal system and living life on her own term. Although we herald women's rights, empowerment, gender-equality after Feminist Criticisms, fact remains that 'socio/cultural conditioning' restricts women to cross the marital thresholds of their confinement.
