Abstract

Ecological investigation of medicinal plants in Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh, India was conducted. Medicinal plants have played an important role in medicine. A total of 110 plant species distributed to 47 families are documented for their therapeutic uses. Most of the species are in local distribution and few species were cultivated in gardens. The climatic and altitudinal variations, coupled with varied ecological habitats, have contributed to the development of immensely rich vegetation with a unique diversity in medicinal plants which provides an important source of medicinal raw materials for traditional medicine systems, as well as for pharmaceutical industries in the country and abroad. The most of people of ancient India depend on crude preparations of these medicinal herbs for a number of treatments.
