Abstract

When an individual finds it difficult to cope with the present scenario due to disturbing past events that is commonly known as trauma. The intensity of trauma worsens the helplessness in the traumatised person. This paper analyses causes and effects of trauma and the manifested traumatic elements in the works of Mo Yan. Close reading of Mo Yan’s works reveal how remembering and forgetting manipulate living condition of the humans. The atrocities of Chinese history and political uncertainty made common citizens’ lives bizarre and horrendously painful. The characters of Mo Yan can be visualized as hallucinated
and traumatised in their own selves
