Abstract

Ecotourism has been promoted as a socially compatible tourism strategy for sustainable development and it has emerged as a source of livelihood option for the informal workers of Kerala. The present study analyses how the ecotourism intervenes and brings localized structural changes in the rural labour market of Kerala. The findings of the study are based on the primary data collected from 872 casually employed workers from 29 ecotourism destinations of Kerala. The zone-wise (North, Central and South) analysis reveals that the ecotourism has brought about the localized changes rural informal labour market of Kerala.
