Abstract

Like many other regional organizations, the objectives of SCO are also to ensure   regional security and peace. The only difference which makes this organization unique is its threat perception. In the context of SCO, threat perceptions are directed against ethno-religious inspired non-state actors. SCO perceives these threats as ‘Three Evils’ i.e. separatism, extremism and terrorism. This paper is about unfolding the whole process of securitization of these three evils against which the member-states of the organization pledges to fight together.In order to unravel the intricacies behind the presentation of ‘Three Evils’ as existential threats, presented by the member-states of SCO, needs a historical and cultural analysis of security environment of the region.
