Abstract

Indian culture propagates the idea of ‘Vasudhyiv Kutumbakam’ which means ‘the world is one family’. India is a secular, democratic country which is the home for people of different religions, races, and castes. In general, Indian society is perceived to be an accommodative society. However, this accommodativeness is sadly lacking when it comes to Transgender, third gender or Hijras, as they are popularly known as. The transgender are an important components of the Indian society from ages. However, in the present Indian framework they are the most marginalised and neglected component.
