Abstract

ONV Kurup, the archetypal Malayalam eco poet raises voice for the voiceless, the exceedingly susceptible ecosystem and epitomises the global phenomenon of serious ecological deficits of the time- climate change, species extinction, littering, and indiscriminate use of nuclear power and mankind’s apathy concerning nature and ecology. Through the poem “A Requiem for Earth,” ONV proclaims his solidarity within and between the biotic and abiotic organisms of the enormous family. He fashioned a pioneering benchmark of awareness through his requiemconvincing the readers on the ‘imminent death and ruin’ of the earth and the urgency of immediate action. ONV poems having an unchallenged splendour and global vision invite human beings to the ‘ecological conversion.’ This analytical study of the poem- the eco aesthetics, environmental philosophy and the ecological activism -open wide scope for analysing his poems with that of other eminent eco poets.
